It's getting closer. Needless to say, crunch time for me and making sure the last minute details are in place. I know I told you your additional assignments would begin January 8, but since I am the director, I can change my mind :) .

Your first assignment is important because it is the ONLY assignment you are required to complete and turn in. Writing your bio. When you open the link for our blog you'll find a post on the types of bios and some general information about what should be included in them, as well as the suggested lengths.

Your assignment is to read this post and develop your bio. We want a WORKING BIO for our boot camp roster. I know to some, this may seem trivial, but our conference the boot camp roster is VITAL!

We do three things by insisting on this bio:

1) You learn how to write a bio
2) You learn the importance of a deadline
3) You help us make a unique networking tool that you will have for years to come.

Please, please help us make this boot camp tool. We must have all bios (and a .jpg or yourself) no later than Saturday, February 6. Cindy Saab is compiling these into a nice document that we will make into a pdf file. This file will come to you one week prior to boot camp. You'll have an opportunity to glean through the faces and bios of your peers, familiarize yourself with them, and when you get to boot camp, the ice is not so hard to break because you'll recognize folks. After boot camp, this roster becomes your networking tool. Every bio has a photo, a little something about the person, and their email address. You'll have this forever to refer back too. As we say in East Tennessee, it beats the tar outta having a thousand business cards to shuffle around.

I promise, you'll appreciate this tool once you have it in hand. So hop to it. This is your first boot camp assignment.

I am so excited. We only have 14 spots left for boot camp conferees to attend The Asheville Christian Writers Conference. Encourage your peers to attend. We have only OFF-CAMPUS spots available. But it's really not inconvenient. It's literally a 3-minute drive from the hotel to the front door of the Cove facility. Park, walk down the steps and boom. There you are. So encourage your peers to attend. And hurry. The spaces will fill quickly.

The neat thing about this is only one of you needs to make the reservation and the other pays 1/2 of the room. So your cost for housing is 1/2. If you would like for me to try and connect you with a roommate to share your hotel room, let me know.

If I have rooms open on campus, I have a list that all off-campus folks are on. I will begin at the top of the list (those who registered first) and move down the list offering you a room on campus. You will have to pay a small difference but it would be no more than staying off campus. I can't help you save money, if you don't email me and let me know you want to share a hotel room.

OUR BOOT CAMP BOOK STORE

Each year conferees ask the question, "Can I sell my books in your boot camp bookstore?"

I wish the answer were yes. But it's not. Unfortunately, we are only able to sell our faculty books in our store. But there is a reason.

First of all, the Cove has it's own book store and sales from other areas draw away from their bookstore. They are kind enough to make an exception for us and allow us to sell our own faculty books during our conference. But they will only allow our faculty books to be sold. There are a number of reasons, some of which are the 501c3 non-profit status of the Cove, other conferences running along side of ours, and then there's the thing of taxes. Yes...taxes. We have accepted the Cove's generous offer to allow us to sell our faculty books only on the upstairs conference area where boot camp takes place. We cannot sell conferee books.

However, if you are a conferee and you have a book, carry ONE with you in your bag. Feel free to share it with your peers. Encourage them to purchase from your website, Amazon, or by personal mail.

When you purchase a faculty book, you are gaining a wonderful teaching tool, adventure, love story, suspense, or life-changing work. Your purchase from our bookstore serves as a pat on the back to the wonderful faculty that we have. I encourage you to visit our bookstore and purchase a book.

DON'T FORGET OUR BADGE OF HONOR BOOK CONTEST

If you have a book you'd like to enter, the prize is a possible book contract.

The winning book will receive a plaque and will be sent to the publishing board of Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas where the board will consider it for a book contract. *Please note: all winning books are not "publication ready." Therefore the winning book must meet all the publication board requirements in order to receive a book contract.

Come prepared to purchase the conference MP3's - Scott McCausey, host of Christian Devotions Speak UP! will record every boot camp class. He will turn them into mp3's that you can purchase for $15. You can purchase the ENTIRE conference for $15 - including the keynotes. This gives you teaching on your desktop year round. I can't force you to do this...but I can't figure out why you wouldn't. Every conference I attend, I purchase the cd's or mp3's. I use them over and over, year after year.

Pre-registration - we also offer you the opportunity to reserve your ON-CAMPUS room for 2017. You can place a $25 deposit down on the 2017 conference. This will assure you a room on-campus. We hope you'll reserve your spot for 2017.

All Boot Camp registrations must be paid in full by January 9! I'm sorry. No exceptions. Payment is expected for the facility and food.
